Tips for Quality Listing

Once you log in to your account and click on the "Add Property" button you will be taken to “Add/Edit Property” form containing guidelines for creating your property listing. Please follow the page filling up all required fields. The more diligent you are the more informative and valuable your listing will be. The more informative your listing, the bigger the chance for you to quickly find an exchange partner for your Home Exchange listing or a tenant for your Vacation Rental, B&B, or Homestay listing.

The common mistake made by many people is to post a listing within 2 or 3 minutes with the least amount of effort. The idea usually is to just post anything in order to get approved for the membership and then just contact other members. You can not be more wrong! If you are not serious enough to post an informative listing with good pictures of your home, very few people will bother to respond to you.

Follow the fields of the form and provide as detailed information as you can. Please check the address of your home. The form comes pre-filled with the information taken from your registration form. Is the address of your exchange place or your rental the same as you provided at the time of your account registration? It might be that you live somewhere else, but the property that you want to list is in another city or even different country. Please do not rush through the listing process and make sure that each field has correct information. Make sure that the number of bedrooms and/or bathrooms reflect the reality.

For your prospective visitors to properly plan the trip it is important to provide the nearest major airport or a nearest metropolitan area with an estimated distance to your home.

It is very important to write a good description of your home and of the attractions in your area. A one sentence description will not do the job. Put yourself in the shoes of the prospective visitor. What would you like to know about a place that you consider visiting? If this is an apartment, on which floor is it? Is it accessible by stairs, or a lift/elevator. Is it easily accessible by a wheelchair? How about pets? Do you have any? Or maybe you are allergic to them? Do you have children? How many? Do they have their own rooms? What kind of windows do you have? Is the area peaceful or noisy? Maybe there are nice restaurants, or hot night clubs in the vicinity? Keep in mind that what some people might find as a shortcoming could be a big advantage for others -- for example having modern furniture versus antiques; living in a center of a tourist district with pubs, restaurants, and night clubs versus living in a quiet sleeping community; etc.

Do not forget to also mention shopping centers, supermarkets, cinemas, theatres and other entertainments and attractions. How about public transport? Is it easily accessible or would your visitors have to use taxi or walk longer distances? You do not have to live in a big city to find an exchange partner. Some people will love to visit and live in quite suburbs or even small towns or villages. You just have to make sure to give a good description of your location to be tagged for someone's next exchange.

TIP: Make your advert search engine friendly. Don't use exactly the same property description you use on other websites and use plenty of search engine friendly keywords that a traveler might use to search for an accommodation.

Once you save your work, click on the "Preview" button of your listing to make sure that Google Map shows your location correctly. If it does not, you might have to correct the location manually. Click on the Edit button of your listing to do that. You can also pinpoint some nearby attractions on your Google Map. Just follow the instructions next to your address field at the listing form.

A good picture is worth a thousand words! This is the first and the best impression that you can make, so use it wisely. A good profile picture of your property can be the starting point for many to notice your listing and to decide to read your offer. You have the opportunity to post 17 pictures free of charge so please use it! Ideally your pictures should include the outside of your house, the living room, the kitchen, and all the bedrooms.

After a successful exchange come back to our site to post a review of the listing that you visited. Your review will not only add credibility to your host, but also to yourself as the member who actively used our site and have already made exchanges in the past. In your member account you can manage your guest reviews (respond to them) and ask your past guests to post reviews of your home.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with your questions, concerns, or ideas for the site improvement. Before you contact us please visit the page of Frequently Asked Questions.
