Argument Cottage Guisborough Yorkshire

Welcome to Argument Cottage, named after a local family, which is Guisborough’s only self-catering establishment. Argument Cottage has been awarded an excellent 4 star rating by VisitBritain for your stay in the historic capital of ancient Cleveland.

Located on Northgate, two minutes from the town centre and XII Century Priory ruins, the property is a former miner’s cottage, completely refurbished to a superb quality whilst at the same time retaining original features.

We endeavour to provide the highest quality affordable accommodation to meet and, indeed, exceed the demands of the most discerning traveller or tourist to our beautiful part of the country. Wherever possible we use ecologically friendly products, cooperate fully with the local authority recycling scheme and also include within our welcome pack locally produced items.

Sleeping four, Argument Cottage is an ideal base for exploring not only Cleveland’s ancient capital Guisborough but also the surrounding areas, including the North York Moors National Park, Captain Cook Country, Heartbeat Country, the Cleveland Way Walk, Whitby, many other coastal villages such as Robin Hood's Bay- and much more.

We look forward to meeting and welcoming you to Argument Cottage for your visit to Guisborough. We sincerely hope that your stay in Argument Cottage is a very enjoyable one.

The cottage is entered via two steps directly from Northgate. The lounge area with bay window accommodates one leather three seat sofa, one leather recliner chair, coffee table, radiator, feature fireplace with electric flame effect fire, TV, Video and DVD player.

The first floor is accessed by a short (but fairly steep) staircase. The luxury double bed has mattress and pillow protectors and fresh linen, as well as four under bed storage drawers. Soft furnishings are complementary throughout.

Bedroom number two contains twin beds with mattress and pillow protectors and fresh linen. Directly outside the bedroom is a small wardrobe with rail and hangers and to the left is the bathroom door.

The bathroom has been completely refitted. It has a bath with shower attachment taps, wash basin, dual flush lavatory, wall mounted cabinet, mirror, shelf, radiator, towel rails and first aid kit. It has a laminated floor and duck board. There is an electric shaver point on the wall near the mirror.

The property is fully double glazed with particular regard to safety. Both bedrooms have windows fitted which will allow escape in the event of an emergency. There is also full central heating throughout and Combination Boiler providing instant and constant hot water supplies.

The newly refurbished rear courtyard contains a bench, bistro table, two chairs, a wealth of hanging baskets and potted plants for you to enjoy. It is a secluded, quiet and peaceful area to spend a sunny afternoon. We hope you will find everything you need at Argument Cottage. Please let us know if there is something we have not provided.

Guisborough has much to offer the visitor. The XII Century Augustinian Priory ruins dominate the town and are certainly worth a visit. The Priory, founded by Robert de Brus was considered to be the best in England when built in 1129. The main hub of activity today, however, is Westgate, a cobbled, thriving, bustling street of shops, pubs, restaurants and businesses. There is a market every Thursday and Saturday, with specialist markets, such as the French Market and Farmers’ Market visiting regulary.

ACTIVITIES FOR CHILREN
Argument Cottage contains a wide selection of books, games, videos and DVDs. Also there is much to entertain the children whilst visiting Guisborough and surrounding areas-some already been mentioned above. At King George V playing field there is a public swimming pool, playground and tennis court.

You can always take a short drive to Saltburn or one of the other myriad local coastal villages and towns and entertain the children for free on the beach, where they can spend hours just enjoying the sea, rock pools and sand, of course weather permitting!

PLACES TO EAT
There is quite a variety of restaurants and cafes within the town. Most of the town centre pubs also provide lunchtime meals, but very few on an evening. We can recommend the following venues:

• Peter and Colin Chinese Restaurant, Church Square 01287 632272. Very good quality Chinese meals with midweek special offer
• Baan Thai, Fountain Street, 01287 205811. Classic cuisine from Thailand also with midweek special menu
• Indian Cottage, Enfield Chase, 01287 636208. On the Hunter’s Hill estate to the south of the town
• Caffe Rosso, 12 Chaloner Street, 01287 284396. Italian cuisine in bistro style restaurant open 4:30-9pm, early evening offers.
