My wife and I are empty nesters. We have limits on how long we can be away, but we don’t have to schedule around school terms. We prefer spring or fall, but we are open to almost any time of the year. We have traveled a lot but haven’t done a house exchange. We have one cat that is used to being alone for up to a week at a time and it would be easiest if you would occaisionally feed her, but we can lend her to one of our kids if needed. We're looking for 1-2 weeks exchange.
This is a spacious ranch house about an hour outside of Philadelphia. Large living/dining room with a real stone fireplace, recently upgraded kitchen, 3 bedrooms central air (installing a room AC on the porch this spring). It is on 1 acre with a lot of gardens and a large semi-private open space in the backyard with a table and chairs. The gardens are at their best in May/June (irises, azaleas, dogwoods and roses) and in September, but they are full of flowers for 3 seasons. There’s a king sized bed in the master bedroom and a double in the second bedroom. 3rd bedroom is an office, but we have a crib you can put in there if you have a young one, and the couch in the family room is a sleeper sofa. There is a large enclosed porch on the back with very comfortable furniture. Cable TV (HD 32” tv), high speed internet and I’m open to including use of our car (you need a car).
The house is located 3 miles from Valley Forge Park and an hour drive from Center City Philadelphia. There is a commuter train station about 15 minutes away where you can park and take the train to 30th St, and then the subway into the city. AMTRAK has trains to NY and DC from 30th St Station, so this is a great base for 1 or 2 day trips throughout the NY/DC area. Other interesting places within easy reach include the Poconos (2 hours drive) NJ beaches (2-3 hours drive depending which one you go to), Amish country (1 hour drive), various Dupont estates in ncluding Winterthur (an hour), Longwood gardens (45 minutes). It’s a good central location for one or two day trips to top rated museums, internationally renowned orchestras, Broadway shows, there are some wineries in the area, the Allegheny mountains are an hour away. King of Prussia Mall is 15 minutes away if you're a shop-a-holic, the annual Mushroom Festival is in Kennett Square (45 minutes).
If you’re looking for a private estate next to the beach or a city apartment steps away from top rated nightclubs, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a very comfortable place to travel around the Mid-Atlantic states, you just might want to consider ours.
