We are located in the Palouse region on the Washington-Idaho border. The Palouse landscape is characterized by beautiful rolling hills with mixed agriculture, prairie/grasslands, and little ponderosa pine forests. Agriculturally, we are the pea and lentil capital of the world with all dryland farming (no irrigation). We are close to hiking trails, rivers, and parks; with many opportunities for hunting, fishing, backpacking, cross-country skiing and other outdoor recreation. Our home is situated on a hundred acres of mixed forest and native prairie grassland. We have chickens, cats, dogs, and a productive set of bee hives. We are looking into cattle production in the future. My husband designed and built our home about a decade ago. It is 1500 square feet with high ceilings, an unfinished basement with pool tables, and lots of windows overlooking the property and the hills across the way. We have moderately temperate weather here with snow in the winter, cool and rainy much of the spring, a warm-hot summer, and a cool beautiful fall. We do not need air conditioning here, but we do need heat. Our primary heat source over the winter is wood. We would have a beautiful home to celebrate the winter holidays. With the exception of the stairs down to the basement, our home is handicapped-accessible. My mother uses a wheelchair and can comfortably visit us here. There is also access to the basement from an outside entrance.
