We live in a beautiful little community called Orinda, which is 20 minutes east of San Francisco, but a world away. Located just over the hills from Berkeley, we are in what is called the East Bay as we are on the east side of the San Francisco Bay, while the city of San Francisco sits on its west side. Orinda is a very pretty community with lovely houses and a small town feel. Along with our adjacent neighbors – Lafayette and Moraga -- we form what is called Lamorinda, a community of parks, many hiking and biking trails, some fine restaurants, bars and coffee houses, two farmers’ markets on the weekends, a small little lake with a great three mile trail around it, and a much larger lake for boating. During the summer, it is typically about 15-20 degrees warmer here than in San Francisco as our daytime highs climb into the upper 80s, with the cool breezes from the Bay cooling us down to 50 degrees at night. One of our favorite pastimes is attending one of the concerts in the park that are held regularly during the summer in our three communities. It is a great excuse to pack a bottle of wine, a picnic dinner, a warm blanket and enjoy some music as the day turns to night..
Taking our public transportation system – BART – you can be in San Francisco in less than 25 minutes to enjoy all that world class city has to offer. There are some good beaches on the Bay within a half hour of our house and some great surfing beaches on the Pacific Ocean about an hour away. The well-known Napa Valley with its many wineries is 45 minutes from our front door. Lake Tahoe is four hours to the east and makes a fine over-night adventure. The beautiful California coast stretches in both directions for hundreds of miles revealing pockets of peaceful beaches, rugged cliffs and both calming and violent waves. And don’t forget the Golden Gate Bridge, which can be viewed in all of its splendor just minutes from our house from atop the Berkeley hills.
We truly live in a vacation paradise. We have several good bikes of different sizes, and also include a car in this exchange, which makes exploring the region very easy.
Our home is perfect for a family or two couples traveling together. We are located in a very quiet and very friendly neighborhood. Our home has a large master suite with a king bed and bathroom with a shower/tube combo. We also have a smaller master with a queen bed and a private bathroom with a shower. And we have two other bedrooms that can each accommodate at least one more person. We spend much of our time on one of our three back yard decks and patios enjoying the sun or our spa. Barbecuing during the warm evenings is also one of our favorite activities.
