Alderhouse overlooks the beautiful Tongass Narrows, is in a quiet residential neighborhood, and is just up the hill from the Alaska Marine Highway and Inter Island Ferry terminals. Alyce, your gracious hostess, welcomes you to warm surroundings, a full gourmet breakfast, and comfortable bedrooms with private baths.


Your hostess a lifelong resident of Southeast Alaska was born and raised in the Ketchikan area and is an Alaska Native. She has traveled extensively throughout the United State and Europe so she understands what you are looking for in bed and breakfast accommodations. During your stay in Ketchikan, Alderhouse Bed and Breakfast offers quality service while also featuring the amenities of a comfortable home.

Alderhouse is a unique two-story home. Designed primarily by Alyce, its contemporary styling is enhanced by antiques and natural touches throughout. Hardwood floors, stone tile and plush carpets in earthy tones help bring to life the ambiance of Alaskan living. Artwork by Alaskan artists such as John Feringer, Bryon Birdsall, Barbara Lavalle and Rie Munoz grace the walls. Large windows keep the variable "southeast" weather outside while offering a view of the Tongass Narrows and the mountains beyond. You may enjoy watching floatplanes coming and going, ferries docking, fishing vessels and cruise ships motoring past and the general bustle of Ketchikans unique waterway. Alderhouse Bed and Breakfast offers a non-smoking and pet free environment.

The small English style garden, is complete with honeysuckle and ivy. The flowers and shrubs were all selected for their hardiness and ability to survive the mutable weather of Southeast Alaska. The explosion of color is offset by the majesty of the surrounding mountains. Take a moment to enjoy the peace by relaxing on the deck surrounded by greenery, watching hummingbirds, Oregon juncos and varied thrushes feed while stately eagles fly overhead. You may note the turtles there in the garden, a gentle reminder to slow down and enjoy the beauty of a moment, a garden or perhaps for you … a day of your vacation when everything was just right.

The Petersburg room is a light and airy queen bedded room decorated in tones of blue and yellow. This room features a comfortable easy chair and is accented with Norwegian Rosemaling. This upstairs room has a private bath with shower ensuite.
