The surroundings
Our bungalow is in a privileged location known as the English Riviera because of its sunny climate. We are close to sea beaches, dunes and islands. Wild Jurassic cliffs and fossils are within 15 minutes. A forest walk leads from our neighbourhood to POOLE bay, the world's second largest natural harbour. From the house, there's a path into Wareham forest and heathland (plenty of fungi). With a mild climate, this part of the south coast boasts the most summer sun of mainland Britain

Nature
Bring your binoculars! Local wildlife includes sika and fallow deer (and red squirrels on Brownsea island); with Hobbies, Peregrines, Nightjars and Dartford Warblers and the Arne RSPB reserve, it's a great region for ornithology. There are several Sites of Special Scientific Interest including Studland Heath and the Purbeck hills. Seven miles away is Corfe castle, and there are plenty of historic towns and thatched villages.

Culture
This is the Wessex of Thomas Hardy's novels, and you can visit many of the locations. There's an hourly rural bus to beaches and to the town of Poole (where there are full shopping facilities and English language schools).

Day trips to London are possible with a two-hour train journey or by coach/car using dual carriageway and the M3 motorway.

Getting here
There are regular flights into Bournemouth. Brittany and Condor run car ferries direct to the port of Poole or Portsmouth from Saint-Malo and Cherbourg in France and there are also convenient ferries from Santander and Bilbao in Spain.
