We were recently told ..."your house is like a hug"...warm and inviting in the English country manner. Filled with art, books and music, it has all the amenities you need to be comfortable indoors, with a gorgeous garden to relax in outdoors.

The master bedroom overlooking the back garden has a queen bed and an electric fireplace -it is lovely to lie in bed reading with the glow of firelight in the corner. The main bathroom is steps away.
The guestroom upstairs has a double bed and its own en suite. Just off it is the studio with gorgeous mountain and glacier views - an inviting retreat for any artist. It is also equipped with computer and office facilities as well as television and music. A third room upstairs is used as an office.
The charming book and art filled sitting room has a gas fireplace and looks over the private back garden and patio. A separate den on the main floor holds a 42 inch flat screen television and DVD and PVR equipment.

Our kitchen is compact - a one person kitchen really - but modern and efficient, well equipped with everything you need including dishwasher, microwave and espresso machine. Laundry facilities are off the mud room.

You can enjoy your coffee in the morning sun on the back patio overlooking the pond and garden, as we do, and then, bask in the warmth of the afternoon sun as you barbecue and dine outside on the front deck off the kitchen.

Our home is on a private half acre with gorgeous English style gardens, fruit trees and a shady back yard - cool on a hot summer day. We are frequently visited by the local deer and birds are plentiful as the Comox Valley is designated as globally significant for bird habitat.

It is a wonderfully tranquil place to come back to and to relax in after a busy day of activities.
We love our house, and we hope you will too.
Trip Advisor ranks Vancouver Island as #3 on it's list of ten best outdoor and adventure destinations in Canada and Conde Nast Traveler magazine has ranked Vancouver Island as the #1 Island destination in the world in past years.

The Comox Valley is located on the temperate east coast of the Island a three hour drive from Victoria, a one and a half hour drive to the ferry to Vancouver or a twenty-five minute flight from Vancouver's international airport, YVR. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, the Valley has everything to offer and is breathtakingly beautiful! Its climate is mild, much like the south of England with sunny weather and summer highs of 25 – 30º C. We brag that it is the only place in the world where you can ski, golf and fish all on the same day.

Our house is a fifteen minute walk from the charming seaside village of Comox, and short drives to the two other towns in the Comox Valley, Courtenay and historic Cumberland. The whole area (population, 60,000) is vibrant with activity - the arts, music, shopping and outdoor recreation and has all of the amenities without the traffic headaches and concerns of a large city.

The area's large variety of excellent restaurants, wineries and fabulous outdoor farmers market each Saturday morning reflect the bounty of our agricultural valley and our proximity to the sea. This is a foodie lovers' heaven and eating locally is a religion! Fanny Bay oysters from nearby Baynes Sound are served in restaurants from New York to Beijing and our Natural Pastures cheeses regularly win international awards. Beaufort Vineyard & Estate Winery is producing high quality, handcrafted wines and is open for tours and tasting as are other wineries in the area.

From quaint art and gift shops, that just can't be found anywhere else, through to chain stores and supermarkets, the diversity and selection of shopping in the area will entice any dedicated browser.

The Valley is noted for its outdoor activities - fishing, hiking, golf, skiing, sailing, kayaking, diving, mountain biking, bird watching, tennis, windsurfing and swimming (lake, river and ocean). There are many beaches in the area, the nearest and one of the best, Goose Spit Regional Park, a fifteen minute walk away. Two tennis courts are within walking distance. Six golf courses including championship course, Crown Isle, lie within a ten minute drive. Nearby Strathcona Park, the oldest provincial park in British Columbia, contains more than 210,000 hectares of scenic wilderness with many hiking trails ranging from short walks to several-days-long expeditions into the Park interior. We are an easy forty-five minute drive to a excellent ski hill, Mount Washington Resort, offering downhill and cross country skiing and snowboarding from December to March, as well as wonderful hiking and magnificent views in the summertime. This year Mt. Washington has had the highest snow pack in the world - over 500 centimetres! Sixteen Olympic teams trained here in 2009 and 2010.

A two hour drive lands you on the west coast of Vancouver Island at world famous Pacific Rim National Park, a surfer's dream, and the pretty fishing village of Tofino. A forty-five minute drive to the north puts you in Campbell River, the Salmon capital of the world, offering whale watching and wildlife viewing expeditions as well as fishing charters.

The Comox Valley was named a Cultural Capital of Canada by our federal government in 2007 and it has been said that we..."have more artists, per capita, than anywhere else in Canada". In early July, Courtenay hosts Vancouver Island Music Fest, ranked as one of the twenty-five best music festivals in North America. The first weekend in August there is the Filberg Festival, a premier arts/crafts and culture festival in Comox, a ten minute walk from our house.

I know, I know.....it seems too much, but that's why we live here.

The Comox Valley Airport (YQQ) is eight minutes from our home and has regularly scheduled flights to Vancouver, Calgary and points East and South. Westjet, Pacific Coastal and Central Mt. Air with links to Air Canada are the main carriers.

About Home Exchange Owners :
Myself, Judith, and my husband, Ian, are seasoned travelers with a taste for exploring. We have become fans of "slow travel" over the last few years after renting apartments in Paris and New York and doing an informal house exchange in Reykjavik, Iceland last June. We have decided that now is the time to get serious about house exchanging.
Ian is a retired teacher, now a full time writer and journalist. His latest effort - a local history, "Joseph McPhee - The Father of Courtenay" is doing rather well! He traveled internationally for many years as a rugby journalist.
I am a professional mediator who likes to balance work and play. I have a passion for gardening and art.
We treasure our home and will treat yours with the same care that we do our own. If you have pets, we will happily care for them as we hope you will do with our two spoiled cats, Molly and Lulubelle.
