France Home Exchange

France is a very popular home swap destination and for a very good reason. You can spend months and years traveling this country and you will still not cover it all. The diversity of France ranges from the coasts of Brittany ( Brittany Home Exchange ) to the hills of Provence and the mountains and canyons of Pyrenees ( Home Exchange in Pyrenees ); from the lush green meadows of Loire to the snow covered peaks of Alps. Each region has something different to offer – a unique look, a special ambiance, its own characteristic food and wine, and sometimes even its own dialect.

Île-de-France (literally "Island of France" - check Île-de-France Home Swap ) is the wealthiest and most populated region of France. Originally created as the "District of the Paris Region" it was renamed to its present name in 1976. The region, with its 12 millions inhabitants is almost completely covered by the Paris metropolitan area.

Paris is one of the most visited cities of the world. There are hundreds of things to do and places to visit in this vibrant city. Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysees, the Louvre museum, the Notre Dame Cathedral -- these are just a few obvious names of places that immediately come to mind. Beautiful architecture, lots of history, theatres and museums, good food and romantic cafes – all that draws thousands of tourists to this city each and every year.

The most popular French region after Paris is probably Provence. It is located between the snow-capped mountains of the Alps and the delta plains of the Camargue. The Europe’s greatest canyon, the Gorges du Verdo, is also here. Great food, wine, and sunshine are the greatest inducements of Provence. The borders of the province has since ancient times been guarded by the fortified towns and villages perched defensively on the hilltops. Avignon, Aix and Arles are the most recognizable city names here. Not to forget Marseille, of course, the second largest city in France and the capital of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. ( Check Home Exchange in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur ). Côte d’Azur polarizes opinion like few other places in France. To many it is still the most glamorous of all Mediterranean areas, while to others it is an overdeveloped victim of its own hype.

Languedoc-Roussillon also known as simply Languedoc is the central region of southern France. It stretches on the western Mediterranean coast of France for the Rhone Valley in the east to the border of Spain in the south west. The coast of the province is characterized by long sandy beaches, with a modern tourist infrastructure. As a natural consequence of its attractive coast location the region is obviously very popular travel destination. This led to the development of such new resorts as Cap d'Agde, Palavas, or Narbonne Plage The capital of the region of Languedoc-Roussillon is the city of Montpellier. See Languedoc-Roussillon home exchange offers.

Famous for its Alpine ski areas, Rhone-Alpes is one of the most prosperous region not only of France but of the whole Europe. But the region that stretches from Lake Geneva to the Cevennes and Provence is far more than just the French Alps and the Rhone River. The capital of Rhon-Alps is the historic city of Lyon, recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site. The architectural and cultural heritage of the city spans over two thousand years. Rhône-Alpes is a major European transit hub, which links northern France and Europe to the Mediterranean area. In summertime millions of tourists travel along its highways from Paris to the sea.
