Totnes, Devon, England

Totnes, Devon Home Exchange

Nestled in the beautiful green rolling hills of the Devon countryside is my home town of Totnes. Totnes is a quintessentially English historic market down with unique shops which sell an array of bespoke goods. From delicious food grown and cooked at the local Riverfood Farm to beautiful hand made shoes, Totnes provides a unique shopping experience.

There are lots of historic buildings in narrow cobbled streets as well as the Castle which towers of the town giving a great bird's eye view.

Our cottage is situated a street from the main High Street and a stroll from the Castle. This fantastic location provides convenience without the noise. We are within the old walls which constitutes as the oldest part of the town. Our home has retained its character whilst having all the mod. cons to provide a comfortable stay. As well a very efficient log burner, the house has gas central heating. Our fully equipped new kitchen can give you a break from the various delicious cafes and restaurants in Totnes.
Due to the house being in the old part of town, having a garden is a luxury, but we do have an outside decked area with a table and chairs. We also have a computer with hi-speed internet access.

If you need to take a break from the shops you don’t need to stroll far to get out into the countryside. Totnes sits on the River Dart and there are many walks (and cycle paths) which follow the river. You can be in a very beautiful and tranquil setting in minutes. If you want to explore the river further, there is a small ferry which takes passengers to Dartmouth which sees its fair share of tourists visiting the South West. It’s a stunning town with many attractions to keep the visitor entertained. The journey down the river to Dartmouth passes Greenways House which was the home of Agatha Christie. It’s worth a visit!

If you fancy exploring further, there is an abundance of activities to explore. From mountain biking around the remote Dartmoor National Park to ogling the fish at Plymouth Aquarium, there really is a host of activities for any age and capability. We have a car which can be available as part of the exchange, so this will give you the freedom to really get to know the area. Attractions such as the Eden Project in Cornwall are only 90 minutes drive away.

Millions of people visit this area of Devon each year and there is certainly a good reason for it – it’s really a stunning part of the British Isles!
