The river flows below the terrace and around the island garden.
The mill is situated just outside the village of La Bastide Clairence, voted one of the most beautiful villages in France. Nearby are the towns of Bayonne, Pau, St. Jean Pied de Port, Biarritz, St. Jean de Luz and across the Spanish border, San Sebastian and Bilbao which houses the Guggenheim museum.
