Our home is located very close to the Little Su River...1 minute drive or 10 minute walk. It is a beautiful walk and with our 4wheeler you can cross and explore the mountain and woods behind it (where no one lives) We are also near the base of the road up to Hatcher Pass/ Independence Mine area. This place is being reviewed for a ski resort but as of now it's still for the locals to enjoy skiing and sledding. In the fall there are many blueberries to be found and the hiking and scenery up there is unbelievable year round.

Our home is in a tight knit community near our cute log cabin Russian Orthodox chapel. We know most of our neighbors and most of us have 2 acres or more of land so we are fairly well spread out. On our 2 acres we have chickens, a garden, 2 goats a dog and a cat. (Arrangements for them can be made so you won’t have to worry about them unless you WANT to.) Our yard includes (at this point) some white ranch style fencing, some landscaping, a small swing set plus monkey bars on a pea gravel pad in the back yard, and 3 large fields to use for bocce ball, soccer, etc.
We love our location. We have a beautiful view of the mountains, are minutes away from moose & bear filled wilderness and also minutes from down town Wasilla where you will find Target, Fred Meyer, Lowes, Wal-Mart and tons of other box stores along with the local mom & pop stores. Big Lake just a bit north where the Iron Dog race starts and you’re sure to find Sarah Palin there supporting her husband who runs in it every year. In the summer the lakes are full of boats and water skiers, etc. There is a place down town Wasilla where you can rent just about any toy you want to ride or drive. If it’s fishing you love, go next door to the “toy” shop and get hooked up with 3 Rivers from nets and poles to license to a charter. Wasilla is an hour north of Anchorage, so if you wanted to take a drive up to Talkeetna or farther, Wasilla is a good starting point.
We’re also only 15 minutes from Palmer where they have a wonderful “old farming town” feel. Quaint shops, Colony Days parade in June and the Alaska State Fair in August. From Palmer you can go East to view the Matanuska glacier, or hop on a 4 wheeler and go up along the Knik river to the foot of Knik glacier. Be sure to go see the Musk Ox farm while you are there.
Our home itself is a split level 5 bedroom house recently painted with an attached garage. We have our own well, very high speed internet. One of the bedrooms (upstairs) is my office and the kid’s school room and ½ of the master bedroom (downstairs) is my husband’s office. The master bedroom does have a king sized bed. The boy’s room (upstairs) has bunk beds, a small TV with VCR that we let them use when we have company. They also have many books, boy toys, a radio/cd player, all sorts of games (for the adults and big kids too). The little girl’s bedroom (downstairs) has bunk beds and a crib set up, doll house, dress up, and many books. We also have a port-a-crib we can leave if we don’t need to take it with us. Our oldest daughter’s room is small with a single twin bed and a little desk. She also has many books (many HORSE books) that 12-year-olds would like…no posters of singers on the wall… There is also a bathroom attached to this room and goes into the hall way across from the other girl’s bedroom. The master and laundry/furnace room are also downstairs. The master has an attached full bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub with a shower in it and a nice big window (obscured glass) that makes baths or showers very pleasant. Upstairs is the main living area, kitchen with custom made Alaskan birch cabinets, microwave, fridge with ice maker, dishwasher, brand new fancy faucet, etc. We also have a Kitchen Aid, icecream maker, grain mill, pressure cooker if you have a need for any of those. The dining room has a large table with 8 chairs, a large kitchen island with stove/oven and this has 3 bar stools for extra kids. The living room has a player piano including rolls, a large hide-a-bed couch and a small hide-a-bed couch and a very comfy LARGE recliner chair. There are also many extra pillows for floor seating. There is a flat screen TV with a built in DVD player that sometimes works and an X-Box we usually use for our DVD player. Also a Wii including Rockband (with 2 gutiars, drums and a microphone). We prefer not to have TV coming into the house, so that we can watch what we choose via Netflix instant watch or the discs they send us or online, HOWEVER if this is a make or break it for you we can discuss getting HD TV hooked up before you arrive. We had this a year ago but disconnected it when we did not watch it. There is also a stereo system hooked up with a CD player. There is another CD/Raido/IPod port in the kitchen. The upstairs is an open lay out so you can easily talk to people from the kitchen to the living room. There is a small back deck but nothing to write home about, we hope to build a new one next year. Our home is 10 years old now. It’s been well loved and well lived in, however we have done our best to keep it looking new and nice. Not always easy with 6 kids, but we get things repaired/replaced after they break.
The kids each have their own bike your kids could use. We also have papa’s 4wheeler he’d be happy to share. I have an 8 seater Chevy Venture minivan with a DVD player we could let you borrow if we can use your car. We also have a small pick up truck if you need to borrow it. If you want to try some salmon let us know and we could probably work that into the deal also, we usually have a quite a few from that summers catch. If you’re here in the winter we have much of the clothing you might need, let us know.
