Georgian (1850.s) villa style house on the seafront in Seapoint, Monkstown, County Dublin.
The house is on two floors - main floor and basement. The basement has 2 apartments (with tenants). We are an Irish/Dutch family of 4 (toddler twins) and live in the main part of the house. (We also have 2 cats whom ideally we would like our guests to look after. They tend to lie around the place so a liking for cats would be distinct advantage! However, if we find the perfect match with someone who doesn't want cats, we can arrange to board them at the vet.)
There is a flight of 7 granite steps leading up to the front door. There is a long hall, off which are the four main rooms, all big bright rooms with high ornate ceilings and tall sash windows.
Sitting Room: 5m x 5m, bright, overlooking the sea to the front, wooden floors, large working marble fireplace, big couch, occasional chairs and tables, flat screen TV, DVD, 100+ satellite channels, high speed wi fi, telephone, large inter-connecting doors to:
Kitchen: 5m x 5m, large central dining table, big old dresser, range style cooker (electric oven and gas rings) in fireplace, fridge freezer, Belfast sink, washing machine, dryer, dish washer, microwave, espresso machine, food mixer, juicer etc..
Bedroom 1: 5m x 5m over looking sea to the front. Pure wool carpet. 2 cot beds (see photo) for our 2.5 year old twins. These cots convert into beds so we will be upgrading our twins before July. The beds are about 1.5m long so would not be suitable for older children. We can arrange larger beds though if someone would like them.
Bedroom 2: 5m x 5m master bedroom overlooking sunny rear garden. Black marble fireplace. Super king size sleigh bed with King Koil spinal supreme mattress. (Really comfortable!)
Bathroom: at the end of the hall. Not our greatest achievement as is awaiting renovation, so still old fashioned - but everything works - electric shower in bath with good pressure by Irish plumbing standards...;-) Door to rear garden.
Back garden: Big, slightly wild (blame the twins), but very green and very quiet and very very sunny.
Front garden: See photos - small space with garden path up the middle to steps to front door.
Area: Fantastic! Especially when the sun shines. The sea is just a few steps away. The road is a quiet cul de sac with hardly any traffic as the road only has 18 houses. There are all sorts of amenites related to sailing, scuba diving etc. in the area. The Dart (light rail) station is at the end of the road (6 minutes door to door) and takes 20 minutes to Westland Row station in Dublin city centre. In the immediate area of Monkstown there are loads of really lovely restaurants on Monkstown crescent (about 15 minutes by foot or 1 stop on the Dart) and one or two bars. Monkstown is also home to Culturann na h-Eireann which is the official centre for the promotion of Irish music and dance. It is 5 minutes from our house on Belgrave Square. They have Irish dancing and session music every weekend. It's the real thing and we bring all our overseas friends there and they always love it.
There are lovely walks up and down the coast and you never have to encounter a roadway. The port town of Dun Laoghaire is a 10 minute walk further south and further along the coast is dotted with well-known villages such as Sandycove and Dalkey which all have great seafood restaurants and bars.
I took most of these photos yesterday (May 23rd.) when the weather was a glorious cloudless 26 degrees. I'd love to say it's like this all summer but alas, the weather on the coast can be a bit unreliable. July and August are of course the warmest months anyway and I find the views stuning no matter what the weather.
Please contact me if you have any further questions or would like any more photos.
