We live in a village near Goettingen. It´s called Rosdorf with supermarkets, pharmacies, an open air bath, an indoor playground a riding stable and much more.
Goettingen, situated in the middle of Germany between the Harz mountains and the Weser river, is well – known for its University, the fame of which is enhanced by 43 Nobel Prize Winners.
The historic city centre, enclosed by the remains of the mediaeval town wall, is home to magnificent churches and half – timbered houses dating from the 14th to the 18th century. Much of the urban life takes place within the old town walls. All places of interest are at most a leisurely ten minute walk.
Goettingen’s landmark is the Gaenseliesel figure on the fountain at the market square in front of the Old Town Hall. This art nouveau statue figures a girl herding goose. It is a tradition that all new doctoral graduates from the University kiss the cheeks of the statue after passing their examination. This makes her "the most kissed girl in the world".
The rich cultural life of Goettingen, with theatres, orchestras, museums and large events evokes interest well beyond the city boundaries. Visitors appreciate Goettingen’s accessibility by road or train and the cosmopolitan atmosphere of this lively city, created by students and people from all over the world alike.
We have also a wonderful botanical garden in the city and the tourist information offers very interesting public guided tours around the historical old town in english during summer months.
And here are some gorgeous castles around We have the Leine (a river) a stone´s throw away, there are a lot of nice bike trails. Just 10 min. by bike is a lake where you can borrow a boat or just relax at the gras area around the lake.
Our 4-room-apartment (+kitchen, bath, balcony with steps in the garden and a small winter garden) is situated in a 3 storey house. We have 1 parent´s bedroom with a double bed, 1 kids room with a crib. We have 2 mattresses which you could use also or the studio couch (for 2 people) in the computer room, which is quite comfortable. We have absolutely nice neighbours and a great hirer who lives just across the garden next door and is always very helpful. We have a garden with a small lake. It´s nice to sit there and just relax. We have 2 bikes and can also borrow some more for you and we have a bike trailer for 2 kids.
