Our apartment is located in Charlottenburg, the center of former West Berlin, on the border to the borough of Mitte (Altmoabit). We live in a small street with a middleclass neighborhood.
As we live on the waterfront of the river Spree, you can take really nice walks at the riverside, which will lead you to the Charlottenburg Palace with its famous palace garden (15 min.), the Technical University of Berlin (15 min.), the University of Arts (20 min.), the Tiergarten (Rufus Wainwright's Berlin hotspot, songtitle "Tiergarten") (20. min.), the Zoological Garden (former mainstation and the adjoining actual zoo) (30 min.) or the Reichstag building which houses the German parliament.
Within walking/ cycling distance you find the opera Deutsche Oper, the Helmut Newton Museum of Photography, the Berggruen Museum (Picasso, Matisse, Klee) and the Museum of Contemporary Art Hamburger Bahnhof.
Every weekend, there is a gorgeous antique and flea market. On wednesdays and saturdays you will find a farmers' market with regional delicacies nearby. KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westens), the largest department store on the European continent, is also located in Charlottenburg.

We are Boris and Katja. Boris is a software engineer and Katja studied Spanish and Cultural Studies and currently works in a small café. Our daughter Siri is now 8 months old.
Before the "serious routine" with kindergarden and school for Siri and full-time job for Katja starts, we would love to take a two or three month sabbatical, enjoying some time just the three of us, somewhere far away. Katja has never been out of Europe, so we would prefer a temporary home at the east coast of the United States (preferably Connecticut, New Haven), but we do love Spain, Great Britain and Sweden, so, spending our sabbatical there would also be great.
During the exchange, Boris will dedicate his time to being a father. Katja would like to take classes (photography) if possible. Hence a city should be nearby, while the house could be located in the country.
