Our ‘Little Nest’ rests at the foot of the most attractive part of Paris. The ‘Butte Montmartre’ (Montmartre Hill) is the heart of Paris communal life. It is the highest point in Paris, a hill of small winding cobblestone streets and stairs crowned by the ‘Sacré Coeur’ (Sacred Heart) Cathedral, a Carmelite Monastery and the oldest church of Paris, St Pierre de Montmartre, consecrated in 1147. The recently successful film ‘Amélie’ revealed some of the charm of the area. The Place du Tertre is renowned for its cafés, painters and artists such as Toulouse Lautrec. The Moulin Rouge became a world icon thanks to the Australian actress Nicole Kidman and Place Pigalle attracts tourists from around the world with its sex and peep shows: in Montmartre sins and salvation cohabit quite happily!
