Apartment in Lovran, Istria/Kvarner borders, Croatia
Magnificent Views across Kvarner Bay
Peaceful Location above Lovran, 5km West from Opatija 'The Pearl of Adriatic'
Sleeps 4 (2 Bedrooms)
This no frills but comfortable 2nd (top) floor apartment, which is the owner's personal holiday home, is situated within a villa which had been built in a tranquil position amongst the rolling green hills above the picturesque town of Lovran.
The apartment is minutes drive away from the nearest restaurants, cafes and shops and beaches - rugged Kvarner coastline with its numerous gentle bays offers perfect conditions for swimming and other aquatic activities. This apartment has also served as a popular base for guests who wished to hike on Ucka mountain, especially out of Summer season. Skiing on Platak in winter.
APARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
Very light, spacious place with lovely great terrace and most amazing views.
Situated in a quiet building - no party animals need applying:)
Modern central heating system, with radiator in every room.
Old fashioned TV: satellite able to pick up a few News channels in English, the rest are mostly German and Italian programs. When we come over we tend to try and leave the most of the techno-gadgetry behind, hence we never bothered about getting a landline or Internet connection (TV was only bought for the kids). There are Internet cafes in the area, for those times when you just gotta say hi to the www.
No frills also means no dishwasher, but there is a washing machine.
Bathroom has all the usual suspects, i.e., bath/shower, sink, loo, bidet...
Kitchen's fully equipped for a spot of self catering, and there is a cooker with both gas and electric hobs and multi-functioning oven.
Beds are comfortable, with a wooden bunk in the spare room.
Stone barbecue is situated in communal area in the front garden.
Allocated parking space for 1 car in the small private parking lot behind the building (near the entrance).
We don't have a car to swap at the moment.
5 minutes drive to Lovran, with its own beaches, or you can follow the coastal road and explore other little towns and beaches on the Opatija Riviera. Lovran is also a starting point of Lungomare, the seaside promenade that stretches all the way to Volosko (12km), and is dotted with cafes, beaches and restaurants. Ferry port of Brestova, linking the mainland with Islands of Cres and Mali Losinj, is only 15km down a scenic route by the sea.
MORE LOCAL INFORMATION: Lovran is situated in the north part of the Kvarner Bay and belongs to the attractive Opatija Riviera, the summer residence of the Austro-Hungarian elite. Thanks to excellent climatic conditions, the vicinity of the Ucka mountain and the favourable influence of the sea, Lovran is a tourist destination suitable for every season. Dense vegetation, a 12km long seaside promenade, known as Lungomare and the slopes of the Kvarner mounts enable the visitors of Lovran to enjoy various activities - walking, tennis, fitness, swimming pools (hotel Excelsior), mountaineering, cycling, jogging, sailing, fishing, swimming, diving (nearby Moscenicka Draga), canoeing and rafting.
There are four national parks to explore nearby: Brijuni, the Plitvice Lakes, Paklenica and Risnjak, or you could island hop - the waters around the island of Lošinj are home of the biggest Mediterranean group of dolphins... Or you could try the island of Cres for its ornithological reserve - as well as eagles, falcons and owls, there is a dedicated ornithological reserve for the white-headed griffon vultures which nest, unusually, on rocks next to the sea. All of the above, plus fish-picnics, and ecotourism, gastronomy and wine-tasting excursions can be arranged locally at the Lovran’s Tourist Office, or why not arrange it prior to your arrival, with a reputable tourist agency like Gulliver Travel.
I live and work in the South of the UK with my two boys, 12 & 18, so we're looking for both family breaks, and an occasional swap for 2 adults only (for me and my artist friend; long weekend city breaks would be ideal)...
I am a writer/ Metamorphic Technique Practitioner. My older boy is studying for his A levels at the local college, and my younger son is attending his first year at a secondary school.
When it comes to duration we would be interested in long weekend (Fri-Mon) swaps throughout the year, and a week or so over Easter and summer, and English half term holidays which fall end of February, May and October... The fact that our apartment in Croatia is a holiday home (managed by my family who live over there) could eliminate all that bothersome last-minute tweaking to achieve the perfect swap.
