Cameron Park Inn offers Victorian charm, modern comforts, and a convenient in-town location.

Located in the historic neighborhood of Cameron park just off Hillsborough Street near the N.C. State University Bell Tower in Raleigh, N.C., the Cameron Park Inn is within easy walking distance of N.C. State University, Cameron Village, and the Raleigh Little Theater and Rose Garden. It's a 5 minute trip to Downtown Raleigh, City Market, Mordecai Historic Park, Historic Oakwood, the State Fairgrounds, the RBC Sports Arena and Glenwood South's restaurants and shops.
This "heart of Raleigh" location is a real plus for business, shopping, and touring the capital city's museums, gardens, restaurants and historical sites! Check out our links page for ideas.

A Brief History
The inn was built in 1916 on a prominent corner lot in Cameron Park, a National Register historic district. Developed in 1910, Cameron Park was marketed as Raleigh’s first planned “sub-division”. It quickly became the most exclusive of Raleigh’s three major early 20th century neighborhoods and was designed to attract the upper middle class. Lots sold for $1,000 to $2,500. The restrictive covenants on the lots at the time specified that a home within the neighborhood must cost at least $3,000 to build. 211 Groveland was one of the first 150 homes to be constructed in Cameron Park.

As a neighborhood, Cameron Park remained stable until the 1950s and 60s when many of the homes lost their original owners to age and were subsequently subdivided and turned into apartment style units for students of the surrounding colleges. The larger houses, of which this was one, suffered various abuses to both exterior and interior design. Prior to its present use, 211 Groveland had been divided into as many as six living units with four kitchens and as many entrances.

When Al and Catherine Blalock, the home's first B&B owners, bought the property to convert into a Bed and Breakfast, their task was enormous. Their vision was perfect, however, and their energy and determination carried the project through to completion. We are grateful for so many of the marvelous features they added (like the stair landing's huge English leaded glass window, which Catherine found in local antique store) as well as for the defining features they restored including the expansive, railed front porch along with four dormer and two gable-end gothic, diamond arched windows. They restored the structural and architectural integrity of the building and took it a step further, making it a bright, contemporary environment with charm its original owners would have approved.
Pam and Dan Boney took over when the Blalock's retired. They turned the Inn into a delightful island experience, reminiscent of their periodic trips to the Bahamas. In fact, it was their love of sailing the islands that took them away from the Inn and gave us, Jon and Nikki D'Ambrose-Dick, a chance to make one of our dreams come true.

As the new owners of Cameron Park Inn, we have steered this charming old home into a new direction. We have decorated the spacious rooms with the best of Victorian elements while keeping the decor simple and clean. We hope you'll enjoy the charm and atmosphere of this delightful home and the personal touches we've added.

Whether you're in Raleigh on business, to take in a special event, or just to rest and relax, you'll be glad you chose Cameron Park Inn.

About B&B Owners/Managers :

Jon and Nikki met over a decade ago at an animal hospital just down the road from the Inn. Jon was a new veterinarian and Nikki was a receptionist. A few years later they married and discovered that they both had a passion for big projects. Only a month before their wedding, they opened Magnolia Animal Hospital on Capital Blvd.
Their latest "big project" is becoming Bed and Breakfast owners. It had been in their plans for years. They intended to retire from their animal hospital after 10 years and purchase a B&B. Until then, Nikki researched the subject and the two even attended a conference in Cape May, N.J. for B&B owners. Jon and Nikki had imagined opening up a B&B in Savannah but as plans tend to do, this one took a bit of a detour. When Cameron Park Inn became available, everything fell into place. Nikki fell in love with the beautiful old home and, almost instantly, the couple became B&B owners!

People often ask Nikki if she has done anything like running an Inn before. Her answer is always, "Yes, but not for people!"

Jon and Nikki are serious animal lovers. As well as caring for animals in their hospital, they have some pretty special pets of their own. In fact, during your stay you may see their dog, Trystan, or their new cat, 2-year old Tyler Rameses, adopted from the Wake County SPCA.

You're invited to step into the charming world they have created and take advantage of their dream-come-true!
